Moving to Brookfield about year ago and opening PlayWell Pediatric Dentistry in Elm Grove six months ago, the Jadin family absolutely loves working with families and being a part of the Brookfield and Elm Grove communities. While being a pediatric dentist is a big part of who Dr. Jadin is, there is so much more to him and his family that makes them a tremendous asset to our community. Sarah and David Jadin have an endearing love story that is now making a difference in the lives of children in our community.
After meeting in high school through mutual best friends at the library where Sarah worked, David, just before closing time, ran right up to Sarah and gave her a big hug. They had spoken online and over the phone, but this was their first-time meeting in person and the first thing David did was hug Sarah. According to Sarah, “That sums up a big part of who David is – warm, comforting, supportive, sweet. And the bag of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies he baked for me didn’t hurt either.” He officially asked Sarah to be his girlfriend in person, with a coordinated lead-in from a friend over a radio show and had them play their favorite song, “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol.
Both Sarah and David attended and received their undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Marquette University. Sarah received her undergraduate and doctorate degree in physical therapy. David received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology, went on to become a Doctor of Dental Surgery and earned his Fellowship at Marquette University. He then completed his pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Minnesota. They were inseparable, dated for eight years, and were married at his parent’s church in Burlington after graduate school where they had a book-themed wedding!
David and Sarah found that there are many rewards and challenges to a two-physician marriage. While David’s career was taking off, Sarah made sacrifices in her physical therapy career. She continued to find work as they moved from community to community. However, she adjusted her schedule from full-time to part-time when they moved to Green Bay where David specialized in pediatric dentistry. While there, he began to search for more meaning in life which led him to pursue opening a private practice in Elm Grove and move his family to Brookfield.
David enjoys building and creating with Legos and likes to knit, crochet, read, and play with his
Kids. He is an avid and fearless scuba diver who is also creative, romantic, sentimental. David taught Sarah how to crochet and, together, they made baby blankets for each of their kids. Crocheting has been a huge part of their relationship; David first crocheted Sarah a scarf in high school, followed by so many beautiful blankets. He made one when he went to college and Sarah was still in her senior year of high school. He made another which featured in their engagement when he proposed. And then he made her one as a wedding gift, which he gave to her on our wedding day in a love chest.
Sarah has been David’s biggest supporter and cheerleader focusing on moving their family forward. She likes to cook and bake with her mom and try new recipes. She loves all things seasonal and goes full throttle in participating and decorating for the seasons and holidays—especially birthdays. They always create a theme for each person’s birthday. Sarah loves to read and loves taking care of her family – she is the glue that keeps them all together.
Five years ago, they became the proud parents of their vibrant daughter, Lucy. And three years ago, they welcomed their clever son, Ambrose. Both children have become a tremendous part of helping Sarah and David find purpose and meaning in their lives. Their childlike spirit and wonder have inspired much of what is offered at PlayWell Pediatric Dentistry.
Snuggling with the kids is a definite favorite activity for everyone. They have been extremely busy with building PlayWell. It takes a tremendous amount of time and effort! With the family’s love of Legos, books, and knitting flowing through all aspects of their lives, anyone would find them to be neighborly, friendly, professional, nerds that are fun, silly, loud, and enjoyable to be around. They value education and family, first, while encouraging and empowering positive attitudes, as well as innovative and imaginative thinking.
Their daughter Lucy is a perfect example of their values as she pursues her career in Unicorn Dentistry, plays with Legos, reads books, and learns how to knit and crochet from her parents. Their son, Ambrose has brought so much joy to their lives as they watch him explore with Legos and ask to, “Sit and book.”
Because of their desire to become involved and give back to the community, the Jadins and PlayWell partner with Sunbeam Kids, a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to organizing projects and providing resources to make it easier for families with kids in the Milwaukee area to volunteer together. Sunbeam empowers kids of all ages and abilities to make a difference by lending a little hand. They’ve participated in events such as picking 70 pounds of vegetables from a local farm and donating to the Hope Center or picking up trash along the lakeshore. The Jardin’s expressed, “This is a great way to share our values with our kids, so we go to every Sunbeam Kids event that we can! If you and your family would like to learn more about the organization and get involved, please visit them at www.sunbeamkids.org.”
Besides the obvious goal of helping others, volunteerism is the way the Jardins share their values with their kids. They want to show them that not everyone is as fortunate as their family, and they should do what they can to help. David and Sarah hope this will contribute to their kids growing up to be compassionate, kind human beings. They also see it as a way that they can contribute to making the world a better place. “It really starts in your own home. We anticipate doing more through church as the work of doing a start-up pediatric dental business calms down a bit,” shared Sarah.
Finding purpose and meaning has been a goal of the Jadins for many years. As they grow their business and their family in our community, it only seemed fitting to quote the Jadin’s favorite author, C.S. Lewis, who famously said: “The smallest good act today is the capture of a strategic point from which, a few months later, you may be able to go on to victories you never dreamed of.” Inspiring others as well as finding purpose and meaning will bring about positivity and hope for the future. It seems like David and Sarah’s endearing love story has paved the way to a successful future in our community, both professionally and personally.
